These 30-Minute Taco Cups are a crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for game day or parties. Crispy baked wonton wrappers are filled with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and fresh toppings like tomatoes, sour cream, and cilantro for a delicious handheld treat that’s quick and easy to prepare.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 taco cups

Ingredients

For the Wonton Cups

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray (for greasing the muffin tin and spraying wontons)

For the Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tbsp homemade taco seasoning)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese

For Toppings

  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (or pico de gallo)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Shredded lettuce (optional, for serving)
  • Salsa (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare muffin tin. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Shape and bake wonton cups. Press one wonton wrapper into each muffin cup, shaping it into a small bowl. Lightly spray the tops of the wonton wrappers. Bake in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes until the wonton cups are golden brown and crisp.
  3. Cook the taco meat. While the wonton cups bake, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess grease. Stir in the taco seasoning and 1/2 cup water, then simmer for 3–5 minutes until the mixture thickens and the flavors meld together.
  4. Fill wonton cups and melt cheese. Spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture evenly into each crispy wonton cup. Sprinkle shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese over the top of each filled cup. Return the muffin tin to the oven for 2–3 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
  5. Add toppings and serve. Remove the taco cups from the oven and top each with diced tomatoes, a dollop of sour cream, and chopped cilantro if desired. Serve over shredded lettuce and with salsa on the side for added freshness and flavor if preferred.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add jalapeño slices or hot sauce to the taco meat.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef to lighten the dish.
  • Make homemade taco seasoning with chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper if preferred.
  • These taco cups can be prepared ahead of time, assembled, and kept refrigerated before baking.
  • Use gluten-free wonton wrappers to make this recipe gluten-free.
