Ingredients
Protein and Vegetables
- 4 cups rotisserie chicken, chopped (about 2 chicken breasts)
- 28 oz green beans, drained (2 - 14.5 oz cans)
- 14.5 oz sliced new potatoes, drained or cubed
- 8 oz sliced water chestnuts, drained
Sauce and Seasonings
- 10.5 oz Cream of Mushroom Soup or Cream of Golden Mushroom Soup
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp berbere spice (optional, but highly recommended)
Toppings
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 6 oz French’s Original French Fried Onions
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the casserole evenly.
- Mix the sauce: In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and berbere spice if using. Stir well to create a smooth and flavorful sauce base.
- Add main ingredients: Add the chopped rotisserie chicken, drained green beans, sliced potatoes, and water chestnuts to the sauce mixture. Toss gently to coat all ingredients evenly.
- Assemble casserole: Grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish and pour the mixture into the dish. Spread it out evenly, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Bake the casserole: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and the casserole to heat through completely.
- Add crunchy topping: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle French’s Original French Fried Onions evenly on top for a crispy finish.
- Final bake: Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes to brown the onion topping and enhance the flavors.
- Serve warm: Once done, remove from the oven and serve the chicken green bean casserole warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Using rotisserie chicken saves time and adds great flavor to the dish.
- Berbere spice is optional but adds a nice aromatic warmth to the casserole.
- You can substitute green beans with fresh steamed green beans if preferred, but canned works well for convenience.
- If you prefer a creamier casserole, you can increase the milk by a couple of tablespoons.
- The fried onions should be added towards the end of baking to keep them crispy.
