This easy Crab Rangoon recipe features crispy fried wontons filled with a creamy blend of cream cheese and imitation crab meat, seasoned with garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Perfect as an appetizer, these golden bites are quick to prepare and satisfyingly delicious.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Filling

  • 8 ounces imitation crab meat, chopped
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Assembly

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for sealing)

Cooking

  • Deep frying oil (enough for frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Chop the imitation crab meat into small pieces to ensure a consistent texture. Mix the chopped crab meat thoroughly with the cream cheese, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  2. Assemble the Wontons: Place about 1 teaspoon of the crab and cream cheese filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg to help seal it.
  3. Fold and Seal: Pinch the corners of the wonton wrapper together to form a four-cornered star shape, making sure no air is trapped inside. This ensures the wontons fry evenly and maintain their shape.
  4. Fry the Wontons: Heat deep frying oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the assembled wontons in the hot oil for about 1-2 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain and Serve: Remove the rangoon from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying to prevent soggy or greasy wontons.
  • Do not overfill the wontons to avoid breakage during frying.
  • You can substitute fresh crab meat for imitation crab for a more authentic flavor, adjusting seasoning as needed.
  • Serve with sweet chili sauce or soy-based dipping sauce for best flavor pairings.
  • Leftover rangoon can be reheated in an air fryer to maintain crispiness.
