Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 12 ounces Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 16 ounces potato gnocchi
- 1 cup frozen peas
- ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Optional Add-Ins
- ¼ cup chicken broth or heavy cream (for a saucier dish)
- Red pepper flakes, to taste
- Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the skillet: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil, heating until shimmering.
- Cook the sausage: Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Sauté onion: Add the finely diced onion to the skillet with the sausage and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened and translucent.
- Add garlic: Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
- Cook gnocchi: Add the potato gnocchi directly into the skillet. Spread it out evenly and cook undisturbed for 2 to 3 minutes to develop a golden crust on the bottom.
- Stir and crisp gnocchi: Stir the gnocchi gently, continuing to cook for another 3 to 4 minutes to slightly crisp the surfaces.
- Add peas and liquid: Stir in the frozen peas. If the mixture seems dry, add the optional chicken broth or heavy cream to create a saucier texture.
- Season: Season the dish with salt and black pepper to taste. Add red pepper flakes if desired for heat.
- Finish with cheese and herbs: Remove the skillet from heat, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top, and garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired.
- Serve warm: Serve immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.
Notes

- Add chicken broth or cream to adjust the sauce consistency to your liking.
- Fresh herbs like parsley or basil add a bright finishing touch.
- Red pepper flakes can be added for a kick of heat.

- This recipe serves 4 and can be easily doubled for larger groups.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
