Ingredients
Sliders
- 1 package dinner or Hawaiian rolls (12 rolls — the kind that are stuck together)
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- ½ medium onion, finely diced
- 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon sweet relish
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 10-12 cheddar cheese slices
- 12 pickle slices
- ¼ cup Thousand Island dressing (optional)
Topping
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- Sesame seeds (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the lean ground beef until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat, then add the finely diced onion, barbecue sauce, ketchup, sweet relish, salt, ground mustard, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the onions soften and the flavors meld.
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the assembled sliders.
- Assemble the Sliders: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package horizontally in half to create a top and bottom layer of rolls. Place the bottom half on a baking sheet or in a baking dish. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls. Layer the cheddar cheese slices over the meat, then add pickle slices on top. If using, drizzle the Thousand Island dressing evenly.
- Top and Butter: Place the top half of the rolls over the layered ingredients. Brush the melted butter generously over the top of the rolls and sprinkle sesame seeds evenly across the surface.
- Bake the Sliders: Place the assembled sliders in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden and slightly toasted.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let the sliders cool for a couple of minutes. Cut into individual slider portions using a sharp knife and serve warm for a perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer or main course.
Notes
- Using lean ground beef reduces excess grease and makes these sliders less heavy.
- If you prefer, substitute Hawaiian rolls with any other soft dinner rolls.
- The Thousand Island dressing is optional but adds a classic cheeseburger flavor.
- For added spice, consider adding a dash of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
- To keep sliders warm longer, cover loosely with foil after baking.
- These sliders can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
