Ingredients
Pastry and Filling
- Puff pastry sheets (enough for 5 squares approximately 4.5 to 5 inches each)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 cups frozen peaches, mostly thawed
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
Egg Wash
- 1 egg, whisked with a splash of water
Glaze
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange juice (adjust powdered sugar as needed for desired consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400℉ (205℃) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking flaky puff pastry.
- Prepare Peach Filling: In a sauté pan over medium heat, melt the 1/4 cup butter. Once melted, add in the 3 tablespoons brown sugar and 2 cups of mostly thawed frozen peaches. Cook the mixture for about 5 minutes until the peaches are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside to cool completely.
- Cut Puff Pastry: While the peach filling cools, cut the puff pastry sheets into squares approximately 4.5 to 5 inches on each side. Place these squares onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Assemble Pastries: Spoon a couple scoops of the cooled peach mixture into the center of each puff pastry square, being careful not to overfill to ensure the pastry can be sealed properly.
- Seal Edges: Fold each puff pastry square in half over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle shape. Press the edges together, then seal the sides firmly with a fork to prevent filling from leaking out during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Using a basting brush, brush the tops and sides of each sealed pastry with the whisked egg wash. This will give the pastries a beautiful golden shine once baked.
- Bake: Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown on top.
- Prepare Glaze: While the pastries bake and begin cooling, prepare the drizzle glaze by combining 3 tablespoons powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon orange juice in a small bowl. Adjust the powdered sugar amount to achieve your preferred consistency for drizzling.
- Drizzle and Serve: Once the pastries have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over each one for a sweet and citrusy finishing touch. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Ensure the peach filling is cooled before assembling to prevent the puff pastry from becoming soggy.
- You can use fresh peaches in season instead of frozen if desired.
- Adjust the glaze thickness by adding more powdered sugar or orange juice to suit your preference.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a plant-based alternative.
