This Philly cheesesteak dip combines tender rib eye steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and creamy provolone cheese in a baked appetizer perfect for parties. Served warm and bubbly, it's ideal for dipping with baguette chips or crostini.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 10

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 3/4 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 3/4 cup onion, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Meat

  • 1 lb boneless rib eye steak, thinly sliced

Dairy & Fats

  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided use
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 1/2 cups provolone cheese, shredded or chopped, divided use

Other

  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Coat a square or rectangular baking dish (3 cup size or larger) with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the diced green bell pepper and onion, cooking for about 3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds. Remove the vegetables from the pan and set aside.
  3. Cook Steak: Wipe out the pan with a paper towel, then melt the remaining 1 tablespoon butter in the pan. Season the thinly sliced rib eye steak with salt and pepper. Add the steak to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and mostly cooked through. Remove from heat and coarsely chop the steak into smaller pieces.
  4. Mix Base Ingredients: Using a mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add sour cream and beat again for 1 minute until fully combined and creamy.
  5. Combine Filling: Fold the sautéed vegetables and chopped steak into the cream cheese mixture. Stir in half of the provolone cheese until evenly mixed.
  6. Assemble Dip: Spread the combined mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining provolone cheese evenly on top.
  7. Bake and Broil: Bake the dip for 15-20 minutes or until it is bubbly and the cheese is fully melted. For a golden brown top, broil the dip for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the dip with chopped parsley and serve warm with baguette chips or crostini for dipping.

Notes

  • Cut your meat and vegetables into small pieces to make scooping easy and enjoyable.
  • Any oven-safe skillet or baking dish of similar size can be used as a substitute for the recommended dish.
  • Soften cream cheese before mixing to ensure a smooth, even texture in the dip.
